Writing from the characters POV

•August 25, 2009 • Leave a Comment

In Robert McKee‘s Story, Chapter 7 : The Substance of Story deals with the need to write from the point-of-view of the character(i.e. the protagonist). By placing themself at the center of the protagonist’s world-view, (a subjective POV rather than objective), the writer is able to imagine the characters innermost self. In order to write believable dialogue we must have first developed a substantial Biography of the Protagonist. Look at McKees ” Three Levels of Conflict“(p 146) and develop the protagonist’s biography for your short film.

One thing to remember is Soundtrack unlike Garageband does not save your audio files into the working file. The soundtrack file will prompt you for any missing or relocated audio files. Make sure you have a copy of each audio file stored with your soundtrack file.

Intro sequence of Saving Private Ryan

Lack of audio can also add to the experience for the listener, drawing them into the scene. Think about how many sounds are combined in this scene and how they all work together without distracting from key sound effects.
